Darkness Under Beauty

You can’t take your eyes off of her
You study her every move
It stirs something primitive
An instinct you can’t refuse

The water seems inviting
Though you know what lies below
the danger looks exciting
the place you’re willing to go
you enter with a sense of duty
behind darkness under the beauty

She can take you or leave you
The importance is only yours
You lay out your heart in spades
A gesture that she ignores
And still you study her every move
Waiting for some kind of admission
Maybe her unspoken words will
Restore your crippled intuition

You look for the light that shows you free
under darkness behind the beauty
