Woke Up One Day

woke up one day
to a world I didn't know
there was nothing in the papers
no win, place, or show

one less kindness, one more stained hero
another second gone...
on the countdown to zero

the price of gas
is approaching the minimum wage
while priests and teachers
stalk the under-aged
I'm closing up shop, taking my ball home
you can have this whole place
to call your own

woke up one day
to a world gone away
there were no epitaphs
there were no sad refrains

one less honor to bestow
one more child to mourn
there is no clear vision
in the eye of a storm

woke up one day
and found myself in a dream
where everything means nothing
and nothing is what it seems

one more hand of greed
alot less time to go
another second closer...
on the countdown to zero

Nicki

I'm not there mami...I'm not there

you won't find me in a sad moment
you won't find me in your tears
you won't find me in despair
or your darkest fears

you won't find me in questions unanswered
you won't find me in pain or doubt
you won't find me in loneliness
or the things you can't figure out

I am in the smile that remembers me
I have become the love you gave me
I am the the soft rain of summer
I am the tree turning colors
I am the wind behind your back
and the woman you will always wonder

I am the blood running in your veins
I am the little girl in your dreams
I am the memory that takes you back
and the smile that always remains

I am the sun rising every morning
I am a light that never goes dark
I am every wave hitting the shore
I am in every beat of your heart

I am here in my Father's home
where every second has a life of it's own
and I am always beside you...
there are no steps you take alone

I am there mami...I am there

Alana's Poem

beautiful girl
seashore breeze
my glowing dream
through heaven's light
a moment to seize...
glimpses of understanding
naked night sky
your smile, my ember...
loves growing fire

A Flower In The Garden Of Ruins

There’s a pain so deep
I only reach it in my sleep
There’s a space so wide
can’t see the other side
There’s no peace I can find
ifrom ground zero to the edges of time
>
I ignored all the things I knew were true…

I waited for answers from above
I waited for answers deep inside
iI stepped away and invited
both of those worlds to collide
Her words roll in like the tide
Finding me in every place I try to hide…
there’s a pain so deep
I can’t reach it anymore

can’t pull it out, look it in the face
Or show it the door
I heard music softly playing
jI remembered all the words of the song
only then did i realize i was standing
in a place I didn’t belong…
I pray for the time
when twisted words will all rhyme
when I find what i thought was lost
when I pay up no matter what the cost
a time to yield power
a time to heal wounds
a time to find a flowerbr />n the garden of ruins

Morning On The Line

while the sun is held ransom at sea
snow falls in the Hamlet of Laurel
misty ice-covered trees...naked
for all to see
in the pumpkin patch...dead roots
from a season gone by
off the water, the moon reflects a winter's shine
and in the distance...
morning waits on the line

You Never Forget

you never forget the look in her eyes
you never forget the way she cries
you never get away
no matter what you may try

you never forget the smile on her face
you never forget the time or the place
it never slows down
no matter how much you race

there is nowhere to hide, no place to run
no time to wonder what you have done
there is no one to answer, nowhere to turn
no time to practice what you have learned

you never forget the sound of her name
you never forget the feeling of pain
it never washes away…
no matter how much it rains
