I can smell death on the deserts hot breath
stalking me...turning my skin to bone
my lungs into stone
I can hear the hiss of the rattlesnake
and the talk of a madman
faces and places crash in my mindless eye
I can feel myself slipping
yet growing ever stronger
as my wounds drip in the sun
and time stands still a little longer...
let the pain strip my senses
and the memory of every lie
my last moments will be a phoenix
a valley from which I can rise
